So, here's the full story. A while back I downloaded all the nuke patched files up to 7.9 with the intention of upgrading and patching in stages. Time constraints meant I never got around to it.

Fast forward 6 months and I decided to install the Member Approve mod in order to combat the spammers. However before installing, it is a requirement that the latest patches be installed. I forgot that the patched files I had downloaded were just that...patches. I thought they were full upgrades so I installed each, running the upgrade script each time.

After installing the above everything seemed to be ok..except the Member Approve mod didn't work. Anyway, I later made a couple of changes in the admin/preferences panel clicked submit and suddenly I was left with a nav bar down the left hand side of the site, the banner at the top but the rest of the front of the site was blank. The forums seemed to work fine.

Oh I forgot, after submitting changes to the preferences all the icons disappeared from the admin panel and the preferences just showed all the fields but with blank entries. I tried entering all the details again but that didn't work.

I figured I must have messed up the database and thought I would try an upgrade to 7.8 to see if it would fix it. Now it's even worse. The entire site is now blank!

I'm at a bit of a loss now as to what to do. I know this is all user error on my part but does anyone think the situation could be recoverable? I have lost 8 years of work if not Sad I thought I had a complete backup of the database by the way but it appears to have gone awol somewhere.

One thought I had was, perhaps if I could not get the front end of the site back, maybe the forum part could be saved, as this didn't seem to be affected by my messing about....until the last upgrade that is. I do have a backup of the database before I tried the upgrade to 7.8

Thanks for listening.

Blank usually indicates an error. Please enable error reporting and check your error logs.

Thanks but even though I enabled errors in the config.php I'm still just getting a completely blank site. That is, there is nothing at all, just a blank page, no navbar, no anything. If I try and access the admin I get same blank page. Sad

Ok, managed to get the errors to appear at last. Here's what came up :

Code:

Warning: head(themes//theme.php) [function.head]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/sites/********.net/public_html/header.php on line 32

Warning: head(themes//theme.php) [function.head]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/sites/********.net/public_html/header.php on line 32

Warning: head(themes//theme.php) [function.head]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/sites/********.net/public_html/header.php on line 32

Warning: head() [function.include]: Failed opening 'themes//theme.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/share/pear') in /home/sites/********.net/public_html/header.php on line 32

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: themeheader() in /home/sites/********.net/public_html/header.php on line 52

Does that get me any further forward?

Thanks

Ok, I figured from the above that it was trying to reference a theme that wasn't there. I hadn't restored it after deleting the files...user error again.

However I now have a mixture of problems. First, although the blocks, navbar and header appear, there is a big white space where the news should be. Second, all the icons are still missing from the admin panel and the preferences still shows all fields blank, even if I fill them in and save it just reverts to blanks. Most importantly however, all the above is in Firefox. In Internet Explorer the site still appears completely blank Sad

I turned on error reporting again and this is what I get in Internet Explorer (no errors showed in Firefox)

Code:

Warning: main(language/lang-.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/sites/********.net/public_html/mainfile.php on line 211

Warning: main(language/lang-.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/sites/********.net/public_html/mainfile.php on line 211

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: themeheader() in /home/sites/********.net/public_html/header.php on line 52

If I try to access the admin.php I get slightly different errors.

Code:

I'll try and figure this out but any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

It means its not reading your config table. Either your config table is loaded incorrectly or your table values in config.php are wrong

being an upgrade, you may need to reopen config.php and add your database user names, database name and passwords
as you have possibly over written your config.php and why the errors above

hope that helps

Thanks. The config.php entries were fine. I gave up in the end and installed Joomla then ported the old forum to phpbb3. All working fine now. Shame about losing the nuke site though but at least 8 years of forum posts and members were saved Smile
