hmmm, it is definately stipping the backward slashes, gonna try again below with an extra backslash in front of the correct backslashes and see what happens. If you don't see backslasshes around the javascript portion, then disregard this.

$str = eregi_replace("]*href[[:space:]]*=[[:space:]]*\"?javascript[[:punct:]]*\"?[^>]*>", '', $str);
