(User Info | Send a Message) http://www.nukehaven.net | WWIV and a 2400 baud modem opened up a whole new world in a very small town. WWIVNet to Atlanta and BOOM. Exploded overnight. It went from 2400 to 9600 to 19200. Those were truly the good ole days.
And all on a phone line. Sigh.
Red Dragon. Tradewars. It never got any better than that.

(User Info | Send a Message) http://www.bootleghollow.com | I remember downloading DOOM on a 2400 modem. The sample was 1 mb and it took almost 6 hours if I remember correctly. I couldn't wait to see the best graphics of any game out there.
I also seem to remember when bulletin boards were the only way for getting those "bad" pictures a teenager always wanted. |

I downloaded Patches and other stuff from these systems, everything in ASCII or posted in the Bulletin Board... Nobody did talk about Internet that time, but there where already Multiplayer Games on those BBS'es... It was Golden Age, NO VIRUSES, NO DESTROYING, ONLY CREATION and no DESTRUCTION... |

We used to do those things before heading off to bed and getting up in the morning to see if it had finished or not. Most times it just timed out and we had to start again. lol

SysOp'n was a bit easier thoses days. Dual node with users still getting busy signals. I'm not about to start in on 1033's and 1077's. LOL! |

(User Info | Send a Message) http://phpnukes.tuzonaweb.com | Well..... not that I'm old... only 49 and as far as I can recall I started using teleprocessing connections at 300 bps. but really got to use 1200 every day at work and from home back in 1981, to read my email and connect to the maiframe computer system using a semi-intelligent remote terminal with an external Hayes dial-up modem. (there where no PCs then)
Beleive me when I say that I've seen a lot of changes !! |
