Hello, I have looked and looked and haven't found a true working way to fix this bug, Everytime I go to a forum, look at a topic, go back to the main everything is marked as READ, same with if i do a refresh on the page, I really would appericate if someone could help me fix this because it gets very annoying when you read one post and go to read the hundreds more and there marked as read when you go back to the main page!! well, thanks in advanced!

-ryan

HERE IS THE FIX
Go to Yourdomain.com/modules/Forums/admin/index.php
Then go to > General Admin, Configuration > Cookie settings

These details define how cookies are sent to your users' browsers. In most cases the default values for the cookie settings should be sufficient, but if you need to change them do so with care -- incorrect settings can prevent users from logging in
Cookie domain *LEAVE BLANK*
Cookie name *LEAVE BLANK*
Cookie path /
Cookie secure
If your server is running via SSL, set this to enabled, else leave as disabled Disabled Enabled *DISABLED*
Session length [ seconds ] 3600

Hit submit and enjoy.

I am looking for a solution for this as well.

It's really annoying to click on an email topic notification link, read the post then find all other posts have been marked read.

I notice it doesn't happen here at NC so there must be an answer (I hope!).

I guess you guys were not using right words to search.

I have posted a "way around" that's working just fine for me.

From Nuke's main admin section>>Forums admin>>Configuration>>Cookie settings and delete all the cookies information from there. This might fix your problem.

Thanks, Mesum, I will give that a try.

I found that the phpBB search feature leaves a LOT to be desired.

Ron...

Later:

This is how my config currently is :

Cookie domain mydomain.com
Cookie name phpbb2mysql
Cookie path /

I am a bit worried about the bold bit above. Which things do I change/remove?

Yeah don't worry, PHP-Nuke sets a cookie by itself anyways, and then phpBB adds one and that's exactly what happens when 2 cookies with almost same cookies clash to each other.

So I just clear the Cookie Domain line

and leave the cookie name and cookie path as they are?

I know the cookies get screwed up. I visit several nuke sites several times a day and I find I am sometimes I still logged on and other times not. Even on my own site when I click on a private message notification email link I get taken to the site logon screen even though I am already logged on as both admin and user.

Thanks for your time,
Ron...

I just did a search using 'topics being marked as read' at http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/ and there are LOTS of posts on this subject.

Thanks, Ryan, this stuff was really giving me a headache today.

I just finished reading through the topics on this subject at phpBB - nobody seemed willing to provide an answer on this one.

Cheers,
Ron...
