I agree...lack of doumentation. If you want something that's easy, download and install Imago's Googlifier, very well documented, and an easy install. I struggled with Google Tap and GT NextGen for probably 2-3 weeks, then I tried Googlifier, and it works perfect.
Also, I noticed a Google Site Map brings the bots to my site every day. Go here: http://johannesmueller.com/gs/ to easily create your own file. He's very helpful as well.
