I'm trying to port a phpbb mod and I can't figure out how I need to change phpbb admin files to be included so they will work

instead of the right pane asking for modules/Forums/admin/admin_file.php?

it's asking for
modules/Forums/admin/modules.php?name=Forums&file=admin_file.php

thanks,
Angel

Odd, phpNuke should not be rewriting those admin_file.php files

What does the code look like that generates the URL?

Thanks for the quick reply Evaders but I think i'm on to something, now I'v backed up my includes/template.php files because the one that comes with extreme styles (the mod I'm trying to port) is a total rewrite take a look here I have to change something In the possibly I'm not sure

but the extreme styles mod uses and admin file like this

Code:
if(empty($setmodules))
{
   return;
}

define('IN_XS', true);
define('XS_ADMIN_OVERRIDE', true);
include_once('xs_include.' . $phpEx);
return;

?>

what do you think?

that mod your using does work but one major bug with nuke you have to call it directly from the browser cant remeber the file name off my head but its modules/Forums/admin/admin_xs_xxxx.php

only way i got around this was forking phpbb and using nuke security and auth system and better replacement for sids

and this is going to be released as soon everything ready on my sourceforge site.

and anyone else intrested i have phpbb 3.0 ready just waiting for it to go beta Smile so i can do the final code changes

truthfully I wasn't interested in moding extreme styles, but instead moding simple subforums which is here the problem is that simple subforums, requires xs because it uses php in tpl files I was hoping I could come up with a work around for it but at the moment I seem to be stuck. Sad

well if its just the subforums

you dont need the extreame styles but just the template.php from that mod

then carry on with the install from subforums

thats all you need to do Smile

hope that helps

So what you're saying is, to use phpbb2 mod: simple_subforums I don't have to use the xs_Mods thing? Just use their templates.php file? I know thats more or less what you said, but I want to make sure I understood 100% before I jump into this mod. In, lame-man's terms if you will.

Don't need XS Mod, just need the templates.php file. Then simple_subforums works fine out of the box, turn key install?

Very sorry to bump up an ancient topic, but I just want to say that yes, subforums in PHPNuke is not an impossible feat!

@Larcen: You're absolutely right. Use only the templates.php file from eXtreme Styles and bin the rest. Then just install it from the box.

HOWEVER, if your Nuke is as tweaked and modded as mine is, you'll have to cope with a headache or two. I'd say the estimated install time of 30 minutes is pushing it A LOT. Although the fact that about 0.1% of characters in the installation text file were replaced with ' symbols didn't help much. Nor did the fact that cPanel sometimes makes silly and page-wreaking ammendments automatically, such as replacing "$random" with "146025" or some other random series of digits. Anyway, be prepared to deal with some headaches anyway, even if you are fortunate enough to have neither of the problems I had.

Here are some guidelines that I thought I should post up to help people who may want a subforum system in their PHPBB-Nuke forum.

- Be careful with your .tpl files! If you are using a themes system, you may find that some of your .tpl files are located where you might not expect them to be. This is only for the non-admin .tpl files, the admin files are found in the normal location of modules/Forums/templates/admin/. In my case, my .tpl files were located in themes/Helius/forums/. So make sure you edit the right ones.

- Image sizes! The module assumes you're using the default subSilver style for your board, and uses the subSilver image sizes. What I recommend is that you install the images as normal, then edit the appropriate .tpl files if needed. If you don't, you might find you have really fat or really thin folder image sizes.

- Customise it! Not really an installation issue, but it's very nice if you can get customised pictures for "folders_big.gif" and "folders_new_big.gif" (note that's "folders" and not "folder"). It shouldn't be too hard, for my forum I simply added a red plus sign and smudged it in a bit using GIMP, but the effect is pretty good. If you choose to adopt a technique like mine, just make sure you don't smudge it too much, otherwise it looks blurry; but too little and it will look blocky and unprofessional. And remember to convert indexed gif files into RGB before you start.

One more thing, I had a little issue with the subforums being displayed on the index page as normal forums as well as how they should be displayed. I don't know whether it is a common problem or not, but it can be avoided with this very simple modification.

Code:
Open up index_body.tpl.

Find:
<!-- BEGIN forumrow -->

After, add:
<!-- IF catrow.forumrow.PARENT --><!-- ELSE -->

Find:
<!-- END forumrow -->

Before, add:
<!-- ENDIF -->

Save/close file.

This basically checks to see if the forum it's trying to print has a parent forum, and will only print the forum if not.

For a working, all singing, all dancing example of the subforums modification, please check out my website: http://www.fantasy-pc.com/modules.php?name=Forums. It should give you some idea of what you're aiming for if you are unsure.

I tried to download the simple subforums mod from here, and it doesn't work. Does anyone know where else I might find it?

See my note above about the .tpl files. You will either find them in modules/Forums/styles/subSilver/ or in themes/Your_Theme/forums/. Make sure the ones you're editing are the correct ones. Basically, if themes/Your_Theme/forums/forums.cfg exists, it'll use that. If not, it'll be in modules/Forums...etc.
