I found I had a file garbled in the transfer. Deleted it and reuploaded that file and so far everthing looks A-OK. It was the block-Languages.php file and was giving me all sorts of block errors on the page.

I'm gonna learn this stuff yet. I should have walked away from it for a couple of hours. It was so obvious when it finallly hit me.
