php-nuke 6.5 weirdness help

Greetings..
as a mortal user I can submit news using a catagorie ( not articles ) for
example CARS and use topic of RACE. ( catagorie and topic setup ).

AS adminstrator I can read and post the news .. but
it has lost its topic and defaults to ALL. Its posted in home area.
I can edit it again to get the propeties I need , cat=cars and topic=race
and dont display in home.

Is this normal operation ??

Also noted that the icon I associated with the topic will show up broken
untill I go and edit from the admin page which fixes it..

any ideas ??
