PHP-Nuke, the fire and ice that make you twirl...
PHP-Nuke...So what exactly does drive your passion when it comes to PHP-Nuke? Is it the portability and scalability offered? How about the ease of installation and use? Perhaps its how fast security patches are created and released to the community? Or is it just that? All about the community and the warm intelligent interaction amongst the PHP-Nuke membership world wide? Why do you use PHP-Nuke, and what fuels your flame?

I was introduced to Nuke about 2 days after I regged a daomain name. I had planned to make a website for my family, but I knew nothing about site design and I'm not "artistic" at all. Presented with these challenges, I almost gave up.

Then a co-worker showed me his website. I knew there was no way he "designed" it, becuase he, like me, wasn't artistic. After buying him dinner, he showed me the ease of Nuke as a CMS. Now, not only do I have a fun forum for friends and fmaily, but also a place to share photos (gallery), post information, track events (nu calender), and share views.

I've looked at several other CMS options (thanks to opensourcecms.com), and while some have, in my opinion, a nicer or smoother "block" setup, Nuke has the support that a noob like me needs from time to time. It also has a block, module, or modification for just about anything any user could want.

Nuke has also sparked my interest in not only PHP and MySQL (I'm reading a beginner's book as we speak), but also in the entire open source community. I enjoy the base philospohy of the movement; people helping people, building stronger and better productes becuase the users are the ones doing it, and the general warm-fuzzy comradorie that forums and sites like this generate. Everyone here is always willing to help, and it's that kind of commitment that puts this CMS above and beyond the others. Just my 2 cents.

Sorry about the typos above... forgot to spellcheck it. (that'd be a hell of an add on, come to think of it... ;).

I have just one question :

How the hell did webmasters do before PHPNuke ?? !! ;)

argh! changing html files at each modification, news, etc... !!??

PHPNuke is definitely a fantastic tool to manage a complete website...

Now webmasters can concentrate on the content and graphism of their website, not just doing time-consuming manual updates !

That's just fine. Thank you FB !

PHP-Nuke allows me to setup a functional portal without having to hire a programmer, or pay $$$ just to get a functional site.

It's also really easy to add, edit, remove modules blocks and those kind of things. It also pushed me into learning PHP and MySQL. Now I'm finding myself writing more code, than getting content on my site.

I love it for the administration features, and the ability to have content for specifc users or groups, rather than the same ole site for everyone.

I must sya that what got me hooked was the fact I didnt have to know any coding language at all to get a great looking website up. and to this day after almost a full year of using phpnuke for my websites, I only know the basics and a few advanced codes for html. and I have made a few websites in html before and they are just peices of crap, if ya know what I mean. phpnuke is honestly the best way to go for any kind of website out there. keeps you from having to worry about knowing any strenuous code and its easy to adinistrate. really nice and I hope to see it continue for decades to come!

I used to use CGI/Perl for my web designing and made a CGI portal type script for my website...
I was a newbie and was learning while running the website, I had a forum setup too and one day, my hosting company suspended my account saying my site was a resource hog..
I was so pissed and went to few CGI help forums and told them the problem, they said if I think my site will be busy, I should use PHP and Mysql for the site... I was like I really do not know any PHP or Mysql related stuff but I still do wanna run a small portal site and they pointed me to PostNuke.
I downloaded PostNuke and start digging the code.... code looked like a mess and I was like this doesn't look ok, but what the hell, let me just install the script and see how it goes.
When I installed the script, there was something about PHP-Nuke in the installer and I start searching for PHP-Nuke.... It looked almost the same as PostNuke (That time 5.0 was out) but when I downloaded it, the code was way much more simple and clean enough for me to understand, from that day and today.... PHP-Nuke OWNZ me.

I chose php nuke because it seemed to have most of the feature sets, extensibility, and was easy to install. I originally thought about making my own cms, but I felt like i needed something to work with now where as a cms could take a year or more to develop. Now that I have nuke installed my users seem to like it and I can devote more time to other site endeavors

Around April I had three sites up running side by side: php-nuke, post-nuke and phpwebsite. After a month php-nuke, primarily thanks to the support here at nukecops, overshadowed the others and took a commanding lead.

I now have three nuke sites with one legacy post-nuke site that I'll transfer shortly. I've been working on web sites for seven years and now .. I've never had so much fun. From the new gizmo's and add-ons that are available daily, to the ease of creating custom blocks/modules for specific needs.

This is the future :-)
